Is it better to file for a 65 or Older exemption or a Disabled Person exemption?

An eligible disabled person who is age 65 or older may receive both exemptions in the same year, but not from the same taxing units.  The amount of each exemption can vary by taxing jurisdiction.  You can use our property tax estimator to get an idea of which might be most beneficial for you.

If you are 65 or Older, you may not be able to obtain a disability award letter from Social Security.
